Game recaps, coach notes and more!

Hello Islander Nation,

Note from Coach Sledge:

Varsity

We were able to get a full week of practice in that lead to a game and OH WHAT A GAME it was! After the upsetting/slow start against Liberty, the Islanders were on a mission to avoid a repeat of the first half of last week. We opted to start on offense this week to get the players to come out of the gates quickly and get in a groove. Unfortunately it did not work out quite as planned, but the defense held our opponent out of the end-zone and with pressure stopped a field goal attempt. From there on out the offense found their groove and the defense and special teams all had exciting nights. We included many of our C team players in the game Friday and hope that this too is a trend that continues. Happy to report we had no significant injuries.

This week we head up to Kingston to take on the Buccaneers and hope that we draw a pretty good crowd for the game.

Thursday Night Team Dinner: All players and coaches after practice in the lower commons.

Note from Coach Shavey:

C-Team

The Islander football C-Team is already two games into the season. The first game two weeks ago against Seattle Prep did not go as planned. The team although playing hard fell 14-2. Although having some great opportunities in the Red Zone we were unable to finish drives off. After the loss the kids made some great jumps in their effort and execution. They came out in the second game with motivation to prove that their hard work pays off. Last week facing the Liberty Patriots the Islanders C-Team won 33-21. We had many contributors on offense moving the ball and making great plays to score points. The defense did very well stopping an explosive run game that is a known commodity in the Liberty system. Coaches have been proud in the continuous effort to get better and develop at the C-Team level and look forward to tonight’s contest vs. Redmond High School.
