WIAA Season Update

Dear Islanders,

First I have to say on behalf of our coaching staff, we are SO pleased to know that we will have a 2020-21 season!! Granted, like everything else this year, it will look and be different, but we are more than pleased to know that MI Football will return in this academic year.

By now most people have heard/read that the WIAA Executive Board took action on Tuesday to modify the 2020-21 WIAA sports season calendar in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The changes will create four WIAA-sanctioned seasons and will also move moderate and high-risk team sports, originally scheduled for the fall season, to the WIAA Season 3 (early spring of 2021). For additional information and the current potential season calendar, please access the WIAA website update here: https://seaintsol.net/wiaasecure/News.aspx?ID=1724&Mon=7&Yr=2020

Further, the KingCo AD's received the information about the changes at the same time as everyone else (to include the Seattle Times, who oddly enough were invited to sit in the meeting), so we apologize for not being the first to communicate this. Unfortunately this was not our call.

As a staff we are now working to figure out the best way to formulate a new schedule to prepare for the new start of the season, to assess when and what we will be permitted to do between now and then, and what our new season will look like (teams, locations and dates). Please be patient as we take into consideration all the factors and get something more definitive together to share with you.

In the coming week, I will be proposing a couple of parent/player Zoom meetings (one with returning players/parents, one with Freshman player/parents), to provide additional details and to share strategies, to discuss where we are currently, and to answer as many questions as I can based on the knowledge that we have at the time.

Thank you all for your time and patience to date as we have worked through all of these dynamic changes, and I thank you again in advance for your support and patience as we continue to gather information that will help provide clarity on what comes next in our 2020-21 season.

Again, we are very pleased to know that we will have a 2020-21 football season and hope that you celebrate this with your player(s) as well.

Good health to you and your families.

Warmest,

Coach Ed
